We have selected four NGOs for you to get your hands dirty and do volunteer work in Curitiba.
1 – INICIATIVA FOUNDATION (Initiative Foundation)
Initiative Foundation works with children who have been victims of violence or neglect of their basic needs in the early years of their lives.
The organization has been around since 1988 and throughout its history has served thousands of vulnerable children.
To be able to carry out this important work with children, the organization has foster homes, places where children are welcomed and receive attention, and in some cases, appropriate treatment to develop to their full potential.
It is in these foster homes where the Social Mothers project is also developed.
Social Mothers are responsible for welcoming, protecting, and educating the children and adolescents of the organization.
Due to the nature of the work of Social Mothers, the organization provides professional and technical support to women who choose to perform this extremely important role for the children and youth in their care.

In Initiative Foundation’s portfolio of projects, there are also workshops in arts, communication, and culture that are carried out with the children in order to execute multidisciplinary, psychological, and pedagogical activities through art that support the child and adolescent to learn to dialogue, interact and negotiate with everyday life, helping them to achieve citizenship and develop creativity and inventiveness.
The work of the Foundation is essential to improve the lives of children who are in institutional and family care.
As shown in the chart below, in the state of Paraná, there are currently 2,334 children in institutional care and 404 in family care.
So, if you want to do volunteer work in Curitiba with foster children, we strongly recommend the work of the Initiative Foundation.
You can work in the workshops of communication, culture, and art or, if you are interested, act as a Social Mother. In any case, your action will have a positive impact on the lives of children who are currently in care.

2 – ANIMAL FRIEND
Is the cause of animal protection and dignity the one that moves you the most? We have the perfect NGO for you.
ANIMAL FRIEND currently shelters around 1,000 animals at its São Francisco de Assis farm, located in Campo Magro, in the rural region of Curitiba.

To be able to provide assistance to all the animals that are sheltered at the farm, ANIMAL FRIEND NGO holds care and bath campaigns, where volunteers are invited to help with the hygiene of the dogs and other animals on the property.
The organization is no longer accepting new animals at its farm due to the difficulty of maintaining and caring for so many animals.
That is, to visit the place where the animals are sheltered, it is necessary to participate in a campaign.
Animal protection NGOs, such as ANIMAL FRIEND, are extremely important.
They are the ones who take care, shelter, and provide love to animals that have been abandoned or are in a state of neglect.
Currently, Brazil has over 170,000 abandoned animals that are under the care of an NGO.
The majority of these animal NGOs that provide shelter for these little creatures are located in the Southeast region, followed by the South, Northeast, and North of the country.

3 – ONG UM LUGAR AO SOL (A Place in the Sun)
The NGO A Placa in The Sun carries out social projects in Curitiba aimed at children and adolescents aged 0 to 14 who are in situations of social vulnerability.
Among the organization’s social projects are Muay Thai classes, the Riscar Rabiscar initiative, which encourages children to develop a liking for drawing and free expression on paper, and also the Young Seeds project, which aims to provide opportunities for children from disadvantaged communities in the peripheral region of Curitiba to awaken a sense of friendship, family integration, global awareness and common responsibility.
These are the three main projects of the organization, but they are not the only ones.
The organization also has welfare actions that involve sending basic food baskets and producing meals for needy families in the region where the organization operates, in the Tatuquara neighborhood.
The vacancies for volunteering in the organization are:
- Assistant in the kitchen, cooking for the children in the project and for the welfare actions that take place in the Bela Vista community, in Tatuquara.
- Teacher, conducting weekly workshops on relevant themes for the development of the children served.
- Photographer, recording project activities to feed social networks and other communication needs of the project Sponsor, adopting a child and covering the costs related to the activities that child participates in.
